Neighborhood Watch Relaunch

The Security Committee in partnership with Lt Brooks of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department is ready to renew our Neighborhood Watch. Our first meeting of volunteers and potential volunteers will be held in the ILPOA community center on Sunday, May 1st at 1:00 pm.

The aim of a Neighborhood Watch includes educating residents of a community on security and safety and achieving safe and secure neighborhoods. However, the Neighborhood Watch organization is not a vigilante organization. When criminal activity is suspected, members of the Neighborhood Watch are encouraged to report to authorities and to not intervene. In the U. S., the neighborhood watch program builds on the concept of a “town watch” from Colonial America.

In the majority of evaluations, neighborhood watches were associated with a reduction in crime and therefore appear to be effective. Meta-Analysis is a statistical method of summarizing the results of a group of evaluations to determine the overall effect of an intervention. The meta-Analysis found that neighborhood watches are associated with a reduction in crime approximating 16%.

Please help us welcome back our ILPOA Neighborhood Watch.
