Ballot Category Count Explained

Since 2018, the ILPOA Board has used nine different colors for balloting elections and surveys in hopes of obtaining data that will help us better understand our community and ultimately make better decisions. While the colors may change from year to year, the categories remain constant. The colors used for the recently concluded election were as follows:

Category #1; full time on the east side of the lake ( 37 turquoise ballots mailed )
Category #2; full time on the west side of the lake ( 31 cream ballots mailed )
Category #3; part-time on the east side of the lake ( 122 green ballots mailed )
Category #4; part-time on the west side of the lake ( 142 pink ballots mailed )
Category #5; full time off the east side of the lake ( 125 yellow ballots mailed )
Category #6; full time off the west side of the lake ( 82 lilac ballots mailed )
Category #7; part-time off the east side of the lake ( 89 gold ballots mailed )
Category #8; part-time off the west side of the lake ( 64 ballots mailed )
Category #9; undeveloped lots ( 301 white ballots mailed )

In total, 993 ballots were mailed of which 541 were returned to the Post Office as instructed. 9 ballots returned to the office as opposed to the Post Office were considered void. Please note that one’s mailing address per the records in the office helps us determine full-time or part-time residency.

Broad conclusions that one could develop from the recent balloting count by category are as follows:

1) 54% of the mailed ballots were returned to the Post Office as instructed.  62% of mailed developed lot ballots were returned while 37% of undeveloped lot ballots were returned.

2) The undeveloped lot returned ballots consistently voted for the 3 rules & regulation proposals.  Excepting part-time residents off of the west side of the lake, all other ballot categories consistently voted against the 3 rules & regulation proposals.

3) All nine returned category ballots voted in favor of the proposed meeting place by-law change, although part-time residents were significantly more in favor of the proposed change than were the full-time residents.

4) As one might suspect, the ballot item proposing the creation of a fund for Road Repairs received the highest number of returned ballots for the five ballot proposals that are being recapped. Full-time resident ballots combined with undeveloped lot ballots voted No regarding the road assessment proposal ( 66% ) while part-time residents voted Yes regarding the road assessment proposal ( 74% ).  On the lake, residents voted Yes regarding the road assessment proposal ( 78% ) while off the lake residents combined with undeveloped lot ballots voted No regarding the road assessment proposal ( 35% ).

I hope that you find this information both interesting and useful. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Again, I want to thank all of the ILPOA members that voted as well as Marsha Schramm and her entire Election Committee.
