Neighborhood Watch Update

1) Called to order at 5:00 pm with attendees R Dixon, B Thom, M Schramm, J Koyn, G Campbell, D Vander Weerd, J Rohal, L Oswald.

2) Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as submitted.

3) A Statement of Purpose of The ILPOA Neighborhood Watch was proposed and later edited via email: “The Mission of the is to facilitate improved communication and create direct connectivity to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department to make the Indian Hills lake community more crime resistant.”  We will vote on the acceptance of the proposed Statement at our next meeting.

4) Lt Brooks could not make the meeting due to CCSD staffing issues.  Via these minutes, the committees is requesting that Lt Brooks provide Indian Hills patrol data that will allow the committee to create a BOLO ( “Be On The Look Out” ) for the identification of certain community disturbance and crime trends. This request further brands our previous request of becoming familiar with the CCSD’s 30 day Patrol Log for Indian Hills.

5) Jean, Marsha and Jackie accepted the committee’s request to begin contacting those Indian Hills Members that they had identified as potential volunteer Block Captains. Michelle has agreed to help them with contact information ( which we agree will be held in private and not distributed to the public via mention in our minutes ).  It is expected to take 2 to 4 weeks for the Jean, Marsha and Jackie to contact the list of 80 or so identified members.

6) The committee approved a recruiting narrative to be used by Jean, Marsha and Jackie:

“We are reviving our Indian Lake Neighborhood Watch so that it can work with The Crawford County Sheriff Office and our lake community to make our neighborhood more crime resistant. The revival’s success will be largely dependent on our ability to recruit Block Captains who will act as liaisons between approximately 20 to 40 Indian Hills property owners and the Crawford County Sheriff Department and other Block Captains. We are hoping that you will attend a meeting with other potential Block Captains to learn more about this vital Neighborhood Watch role. Can we send you an invitation?”

7) Next steps to the above recruiting effort will be:

  • Cross reference the list created by Jean, Marsha and Jackie with the former list of L Kraft
  • Fill in recruiting geographical gaps as needed with new recruit suggestions
  • Hold a meeting headed by Lt Brooks to describe Block Captain roles and responsibilities and reassess volunteer enthusiasm for the role.
  • Headed by Lt Brooks, begin Block Captain training and organization.

8) Continue to layover D Dolen’s investigation with Crawford Electric & NW signage. It was noted one concerned comment was received by a neighbor at large ( after reading our recent posted minutes ) regarding the concept of the committee’s potential desire for more street lighting in certain areas. The commentary was accepted and appreciated by the committee.

9) Due to Labor Day weekend, our next NW meeting will not be until Monday, September 12th, in the Community Center at 5:00 pm.

10) With no other old or new business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:35 pm.
