I want to end this year with a shout-out to the community and thank you all for your support throughout the year!!

Despite many challenges, the guys have done a phenomenal job! They persevered through Covid-19, loss of 1 employee for 6 months to cancer, equipment breakdown, flood, tornado, etc. A huge thank you to Joe Modray, Walt Koyn, Matt Eaton, and Brian who filled in part-time. They have made my job much easier and enjoyable.

I also want to thank you all for your generosity. One member contributed a new John Deere tractor with bucket and brush hog and the booster club has been extremely generous, helping with equipment repair costs. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Looking forward, the guys are going to be busy with a list of priority winter projects (Already started) that include:

  • Culvert replacements
  • Cutting the dam & spillway (Completed and looking fantastic!)
  • Extending Cove 1 & 9 boat ramps
  • Dig out Cove 5 ramp
  • Repair Cove 9 dock
  • Remove excess mud around Cove 9 dock, mud & rock built up in the center, and remove tree deposited in Cove 9 during the flood.
  • Place rip rap along the wall at Cove 9 wall dock to prevent further erosion
  • Do repairs on the valve box at the Dam
  • Repair Cove 5 dock (Broken welds at the hinges
  • Repair Exit gate loop
  • Replace concrete for Exit gate loop
  • Remove piers at the original star dock location
  • Convert lights at the entrance to LED & replace switches
  • Winterize community center outside the bathroom
  • Repairs to Guard shack
  • Prepare and maintain equipment through the winter
  • And keeping our roads clean & safe for your travel
  • To name a few

I also want to extend a sincere thank you to my fellow board members as well as the community for the opportunity to serve with such a great group. I hoped to leave Roads & Maintenance a little better than when I started and with the help of Joe, Walt, Matt & Brian, I am convinced we have!

Here’s wishing each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! I pray God’s blessings on each of you in 2021!! Please, stay safe!!!

Gary Campbell, Chairman Roads & Maintenance
