May 2025 - E.Coli Testing

Important Notice: Elevated E. coli Levels Detected - Swimming Not Advised

Dear Indian Lake Members,

Water testing conducted this week has revealed E. coli levels well above acceptable limits throughout the lake. As a precaution, swimming is not advised at this time.

The most likely cause of this spike is agricultural runoff from upstream, triggered by the recent heavy rains. We plan to re-test the water next week or the following week, depending on additional rainfall in the coming days.

While this may be a disappointing development for the weekend, we want to emphasize that this is not a long-term crisis. Incidents like this occur every few years when conditions align and are not unique to Indian Lake. This is precisely why we conduct regular testing to catch these issues early and keep everyone informed and safe.

To clarify a likely question: this issue is completely unrelated to the ongoing Lake Restoration Project, which focuses on toxic algae. The current E. coli situation stems from entirely different environmental factors and is unaffected by any restoration activities underway.

Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to the health of our lake and community. We will keep you updated as new test results come in.
